Setting up your Microsoft Windows Explorer Browser

ACT! Premium for Web requires that you use Microsoft Windows Explorer 6.0 or higher.

Be sure you have disabled any popup blocker on your Web browser.

In addition, there are three settings you must make in Windows Explorer in order to assure smooth, uninterrupted operation.

A. Enable your browser to accept "cookies."

B. Enable your browser to download ActiveX controls.

C. Add the Web address of your ACT! for Web site to the list of managed sites.

Here is how to accomplish these three requirements. (The following instructions apply to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.)

A. Enabling your browser to accept "cookies"

1. Launch Internet Explorer
2. From the menu select Tools, Internet Options...
3. Select the Privacy tab

   

4. Click the Advanced button.

   

5. Make sure Override automatic cookie handling is checked.
6. Choose Accept for both First-party Cookies and Third-party Cookies.

   

B. Enabling your browser to download ActiveX Controls

1. With Internet Explorer on the screen, click Tools, Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.

   

3. Then click the Internet Web content zone.
4. Click Custom Level...

   

5. Scroll down slightly until you see ActiveX controls and plug-ins.
6. Click Enable for the following settings:
   1. Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls (Enable)
   2. Binary and script behaviors (Enable)
   3. Download signed ActiveX controls (Enable)

      

7. Scroll down a little further to the next group of three ActiveX control settings.
   
   Click Prompt for the following settings:
   1. Download unsigned ActiveX controls (Prompt)
   2. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe (Prompt)
      
      Click Enable for the following setting:
      1. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins (Enable)

         

8. Scroll slightly farther until you see Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting.
9. Click Enable for this setting:
   1. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting (Enable)

      

C. Add the Web address of your ACT! for Web site to the list of managed sites

1. With Internet Explorer on the screen, click Tools, Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.

   

3. Click on the Trusted Sites icon.

   

4. Click the Sites... button.

   

5. Add the Internet address of your ACT! for Web hosting site to the Web sites list by typing the address under Add this Web site to the zone. (Note: You will receive this Web address from your ACT! Hosting Service Provider.
6. Click Add.
7. Click OK.
8. Cloce your Internet Options Dialog box.
